WOW! |
if you didn't see it on monday and yesterday, you should check out a re-run of spike lee's documentary on katrina. my head is still spinning and i am still not sure what to make of it. part of me thinks that it was a very strong hurricane, a natural disaster so of course people will die. unfortunate, but true. the issue i suppose is how they died...days later...because of lack of medicines and such. i really don't know what i think of it all but i am unnerved by the underlying theme of blame. residents blame "the government" (which ends up being manifested as bush), weather experts blame the army corps for poor construction (shoot, the army corps blames the army corps for poor construction!), the insurance companies blame homeowners for living below sea level, mayors blame councilwomen blame governors blame fema blame brown blame states' rights issues and so forth.
what lingers most in my mind are the images of bodies that closed act II on monday night (i could hardly sleep that night), but also the words of a historian who said that there are no fortune 500 companies in louisiana but still the state holds power because of the domestic oil production. or rather, they house the production, but entities in other locations control the wealth from the industry. |

and now, an update |
well kids thanks to all of you for hanging in there with me. for being bored at work and checking my blog, even when there is nothing interesting to read. i hope this shall change soon because...
i'm moving. many of you of course know this already so the wonder of technology has thus been usurped. i am moving to the itty-bitty town of borrego springs, the desert east of san diego. i begin a new job fundraising for these kind folks on monday. i am excited to have more time to blog, among other things. more later.
i am curently in dc cat-sitting for my little niece an nephew kitties while court and kurt are on a cruise. i am enjoying catching up with friends. lovers. employers. but i can't tell you how fun it is to be in this city knowing that you can leave the over-inflation and not have to work.
before leaving la though i went to the grove for a little shopping at o&co and saw none other than cheyanne. there were dozens of teenagers packing in the b&n to catch a glimpse of her. sherrie's friend mat kearney is playing there next wednesday which should be a great show.
and nearly most exciting of all - tonight i saw the commercial they filmed in front of our building! i got sucked in to watching the 40 greatest pranks on vh1 and state farm had a few of them airing then. if you see the kid with flowers in a silver honda getting his doors knocked of...that's my quaint little place in los feliz.
and now i shall leave you all with a question - should i attend my 10 year high school reunion later this month? |
